Come experience real working art studios of Cornelia Arts Building’s talented artists and artisans. Meet the creators in person, and explore their art practices up close. See artwork from the building’s numerous resident artists, and enjoy the newest guest artist exhibitions by Gary Gantert and Joseph Fisher.

Come explore two full floors of working artist studios, and have a chance to purchase artwork and hand-made crafts directly from the people who made them. Over fifty local artists and artisans work here, including sculptors, painters, photographers, ceramic artists, print-makers, jewelry designers, textile artisans, and much more. With one-of-a-kind hand-made artwork and gifts by both the building artists and guest artists, the event offers something for the whole family to enjoy. Free and open to the public.

Located at 1800 West Cornelia, the building rests at the border of three distinct Chicago Neighborhoods; Lakeview, Roscoe Village, and North Center. The State Street Gallery is please to announce its fall exhibition, Connections, highlighting the work of over 30 artists and artisans living and working in Illinois. The juried collection is largely tactile and three dimensional including work in ceramic, wood, blown glass, fused glass, steel, textile, oil paintings, photography, and painted glass.

This is the 5th curated exhibition hosted by the galleries of Robert Morris University that celebrate the vast talents of artists and artisans living and working in Illinois. In addition to the works on display in the exhibition, smaller hand-crafted items by the featured artists will be available for immediate purchase in the ArtMart section of the State Street Gallery.

"Emily’s paintings offer a reflective view of the city. The external structures of houses are weatherworn and imbued with the character of their current/former owners. Reflections in water or windows are evocative of internal, possibly transformative, processes. Deconstructed and wrapped in Tyvek sheeting, the surrounding earth imprinted with tracks of heavy machinery, dirt and debris, we see an elemental struggle as the former structure is broken apart and built up again in paint. Seen together these ordinary neighborhood scenes coalesce to create an expressive vision of a distinctly American landscape."

Artist Emily Rapport explores the “architecture of place” in her first solo exhibition of paintings at Firecat Projects.

"The exhibition, titled “Subject to Change: Urban Landscape and the Architecture of Place,” is both a documentary archive of a neighborhood undergoing physical and demographic shifts, and a painterly narrative that finds moments of sublime beauty in construction site debris and frozen mud tracks. The depiction of mundane scenes of streets and houses, often with vibrant colors and an expressive application of paint, transform the act of looking into a visceral experience."
