Art Loop Open Prizes Awarded
Chicago's Art Loop Open ended the first half of the show with awards given to the top three most popular pieces by public vote, and twelve additional prizes. 
In the next half of the show, the artworks are offered for sale. Sale prices will be listed by each work. All 190 pieces remain up in their respective venues through November 12th. 
Popular Vote: 
1st: John Dempsey: "The Great American Landscape" (Painting) $25,000
2nd: Daniel Lavitt: Till We Meet Again (Sculpture) $15,000
3rd: Joseph Ivacic: Staying Connected (Sculpture) $10,000
The additional awards are as follows:
  • The Richard H. Driehaus Prize for Representational Art
Presented and judged by the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation, this $5,000 cash prize is awarded to the artist with the best ‘representational work.’
Winner: Renee McGinnis: Park 60654 (Painting)
  • The WIT Prize
Presented and judged by theWit Hotel, this $5,000 cash prize is awarded to the artist whose work best reflects the concept of ‘WIT’- the power of thinking and reasoning, intellectual and perceptive, humor and intelligence.
Winner: Younghwan Choi: My Dear Friend (Installation)
  • 3Arts Prize
Awarded by 3Arts, this $2,000 cash prize reflects 3Arts’s mission of supporting women artists, artists of color, and artists with disabilities whose work evinces a fearless, distinctive artistic voice and embodies the dynamic, risk-taking qualities that make Chicago artists second to none.
Winner: Catherine Jacobi: Forgetting (Sculpture)
  • Art Chicago | NEXT Prize
The winning artist, selected by Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc. (MMPI), will have his/her artwork exhibited in the Chicago Artists’ Coalition booth at Art Chicago/NEXT April 28 - May 2, 2011.
Winner: Duncan Anderson: Amputee with First Day of School (Collage)
  • Artropolis Prize
The winning artist, selected by MMPI, will receive an extended exhibition within a public space at the Merchandise Mart from November 2010 through the duration of Artopolis in the spring of 2011.
Winner: Bernard Williams: Buffalo Chart (Installation)
  • One of A Kind Prize
The winning artist, selected by MMPI, will receive a booth at the 2010 One of A Kind Show, December 2 – 5, 2010.
Winner: Lynn Basa: Lotus Lake 4 (Painting)
  • Hard Rock Hotel Prize
The winning artist, selected by the Hard Rock Hotel, will exhibit a piece and/or collection of their work for one year in one of the hotel’s suites, along with an opening reception at the suite and a two-night stay. 
Winner: Kip Pasta: 'Cityscape' (Sculpture)
  • The CADA Choice (four awards)
The Chicago Art Dealers Association (CADA) is an arts organization comprised of the city’s foremost visual arts dealers. One winning artist was chosen by each of four galleries – Catherine Edelman Gallery, Packer Schopf Gallery, Roy Boyd Gallery and Perimeter Gallery – for a one-month exhibit in their respective galleries during the next twelve months.

Winner: Jim Newberry: Momentum Mori Memorial Ghost Riders (Photography)

Congratulations to all the artists and the Chicago Loop Alliance and Chicago Artist's Coalition for the success of this first annual show, and to Chicago's public for their enthusiasm and support.

All Art will now be on Sale from  October 30 - November 12.

Chicago’s inaugural Art Loop Open, a major new art competition, continues the First Round of Public Voting, (ending TODAY, Thur., Oct. 21 at 8 pm). Visit and vote at 3 or more venues October 15 - 21 and be entered to win a trip to Hawaii courtesy of the Hawaii Visitors and Conventions Bureau! 

191 local artists, selected by jury from over 800 entries, are on display at the ten official Art Loop Open venues: Block 37, Hard Rock Hotel Chicago, Hotel Burnham, Macy’s, Merchandise Mart, French Market - Metra Mart, Palmer House, Hotel Allegro, theWit Hotel, and W Chicago-City Center. Together these iconic venues create a web of instantly connected neighborhood galleries, open and free to the public. Together these works show the wide range of talents Chicago has to offer!

During the First Round of voting, visitors can vote for as many art pieces as they’d like, via Smart Phone Application or Text Message. Info on voting is at each venue. Block 37 hosts many of the artworks as well as the "HUB 37" pedway-level interactive area, where you can see thumbnails of all works and their locations, and plan out your visit with high tech tools. Artists are competing in over $60,000 in cash and other prizes, with top cash prizes awarded by the public.

Chicago’s inaugural Art Loop Open, a major new art competition judged by the public, will launch with a festive Loop Art Crawl throughout the downtown area, Friday, October 15, from 5-8 p.m.

191 local artists, selected by an esteemed jury from a pool of 800 entries, will be on display at the ten official Art Loop Open venues: Block 37, Hard Rock Hotel Chicago, Hotel Burnham, Macy’s, Merchandise Mart, French Market/Metra Mart, Palmer House, Hotel Allegro, theWit Hotel, and W Chicago-City Center. Together these iconic venues will create a web of instantly connected neighborhood galleries, open and free to the public. 

On October 15th, the public is encouraged to visit each venue and begin voting for their favorite artworks, while enjoying specially-priced “Artini” cocktails and other offerings. Many of the artists will be on hand that evening to discuss their works. Artists are competing in over $60,000 in cash and other prizes, with top cash prizes awarded by the public.

From Oct. 15 - 21, the public is urged to participate in the First Round of voting, at which time they can vote once in support of as many pieces as they’d like. Viewers will have access to a wealth of information about the Artists and the work available to them via the web site, traditional print materials and through specially designed technology accessible through their smart phones and social media applications, including technologies that will enable audiences to engage with art, artists and venues through innovative mapping tools, virtual dialogues, and extensions to artists’ studios. Viewers can also follow ALO through Facebook and Twitter.
