Art Loop Open
October 15 – 29
Chicago’s inaugural Art Loop Open, a major new art competition judged by the public, will launch with a festive Loop Art Crawl throughout the downtown area, Friday, October 15, from 5-8 p.m.
191 local artists, selected by an esteemed jury from a pool of 800 entries, will be on display at the ten official Art Loop Open venues: Block 37, Hard Rock Hotel Chicago, Hotel Burnham, Macy’s, Merchandise Mart, French Market/Metra Mart, Palmer House, Hotel Allegro, theWit Hotel, and W Chicago-City Center. Together these iconic venues will create a web of instantly connected neighborhood galleries, open and free to the public.
On October 15th, the public is encouraged to visit each venue and begin voting for their favorite artworks, while enjoying specially-priced “Artini” cocktails and other offerings. Many of the artists will be on hand that evening to discuss their works. Artists are competing in over $60,000 in cash and other prizes, with top cash prizes awarded by the public.
Jason Messinger’s 5' x 9' tile mural “Sympathies” will be on display at the Palmer House, at 17 E. Monroe Street.
From Oct. 15 - 21, the public is urged to participate in the First Round of voting, at which time they can vote once in support of as many pieces as they’d like. Viewers will have access to a wealth of information about the Artists and the work available to them via the web site, traditional print materials and through specially designed technology accessible through their smart phones and social media applications, including technologies that will enable audiences to engage with art, artists and venues through innovative mapping tools, virtual dialogues, and extensions to artists’ studios. Viewers can also follow ALO through Facebook and Twitter.
